According to legend, Sayyid Muhammed Shareeful Madani traveled from Saudi Arabia to Mangalore approximately 400 years ago, floating across the shores of Ullal on a piece of fabric. He lived a humble life, showing love to the underprivileged, while tented in a small mosque at Melangadi near Ullal village. This is regarded as the main Jumma Masjid by residents of Ullal, Pemannur, and the nearby villages of Someshwar, Munnur, Kotekar, and Jeppinamogaru. Because of his compassion and use of prayer to heal the afflicted, he rose to fame among the locals.
